Sensory Deprivation Experience
HOW IT WORKS
Think about all the tasks your senses are simultaneously responsible for. From processing images, language, and abstract concepts to running the everyday systems of your body, all the unconscious work that goes into simply keeping your body upright. Removing the need to process any stimuli and maintain structure allows your nervous system to take a break. Instead, it heals, wanders, plays, and recharges - and just as with anything else, a little relief keeps things in optimal working order.
Some people share that ideas come to them more easily during or after a float, or that their thinking is sharper and their instincts are healthier. This is due to REST (restricted environmental stimulation therapy) allowing the floater to experience extended periods of theta brainwaves - the type you have all-too- briefly just before and after being asleep. Other floaters are drawn to the physical benefits. By freeing your body from the constant need to support itself, muscles and joints are able to escape coils of tension and the responsibilities of balance, and redirect that energy to healing. And, unlike simply lying on a mattress, floating also allows your blood to flow with maximum freedom, benefiting the vascular system, too.
Why We Float
Aching bodies, buzzing minds, daily stress.. We all come to sensory deprivation searching for relief or wanting to inquire deeper within. We say that every float is a "custom" experience depending on where you are every time. However these are some common benefits that regular floating provides.
Arthritis, back pain, neck pain, tendinitis, bursitis, inflammation, and psychosomatic pain relief have all been documented via tank use.
Regular floating can alter the set-points in the endocrine homeostatic mechanism which can cause adjustments such as a lower adrenal activation threshold.
Epsom salt baths help draw out toxins, lactic acid build-up, and speed up recovery time. This is why floating has been adopted by many professional athletes.
With literally zero outward distractions your attention is easily redirected inward. Habitual thought-pattern recognition and analysis can be clearly discovered.
Increased Immune Function
Immune function is enhanced by suppressing stress hormones which weaken the immune system and suppress the digestion and reproductive systems.
Magnesium has been shown to be deficient in the standard North American diet. From standard pain relief to preventing osteoporosis, magnesium is awesome!
Meditation has a plethora of researched benefits and floating is a unique and phenomenal tool to cultivate mental stillness.
From managing chronic stress and inducing a natural calm to facilitate introspection, many people report drastically improved sleep patterns.
Floating floods the body with endorphins. These neurotransmitters are responsible for relieving pain, enhancing mood, and decreasing anxiety.
Depression & Anxiety Relief
A study from The International Journal of Stress Management indicated a group of 70 floaters experienced reduced pain, stress, anxiety and depression.
Floating has shown to enhance behavior modification efforts such as breaking habits, relieving phobias and beating addictions.
Magnesium absorbed through your skin helps relax muscle tissue and encourage blood flow, accelerating rehabilitation and recovery.
Anti Jet Lag & Fatigue
Floating has quickly become a popular technique for minimizing the affects of jet lag and fatigue. One hour in a tank is roughly equivalent to 6-8 hours sleep.
Studies suggest floating encourages more creative solutions to complex problems. University students perform better on creativity tests after just one float.
Research indicates increased visual acuity, improved tactile perception, improved auditory sensitivity, and increased taste sensitivities after floating.
With less distractions and greater resources at your mind's disposal, you are able to absorb new material very deeply improving memory and recall.
